I received the most beautiful text from a friend today. I wanted to say a special thank you, so I put on my sneakers, grabbed my camera and set out for a stroll around my neighbourhood after work. This picture is especially for you Ryno. Your thoughts and messages mean the world to me. Your frienship adds to all the beauty and love in my life.

Very Cherry

I am so happy that it is finally Spring and gardens all over the city are looking simply gorgeous. The route to work is looking better and better everyday. It starts on my way to the bus stop when I pass my neighbour's house, he has the most beautiful cherry blossom bush blooming in his front garden. I know it's a little early for new years resolutions, but by next Spring I really want my very own cherry blossom bush. Aren't they simply delightful?

I heart this dress sooo much. In fact, so much that it just inspired me to start my very own wishlist. And guess what's going right on top?

Ain't no sunshine

I am just about ready for Spring. As much as I love my fluffy pink striped slippers and my cuddly flannel pyjamas, I am over it. I am yearning for summer with every frozen fibre of my being. So I thought  a bit of positve and reinforcing summer scenario planning from my side might take my mind of the mercury and make summer come all the quicker.

So I started thinking about what summer means to me and my friends, and what most peole generally associate with the glorious season that brings us lazy days on the beach, sweet and cheeky cocktails, frolicky bikin tops and melting ice cream in your hands. And one image is undeniably ethed into my mind : a sweet and lovely lemonade stand.

Nothing makes you go "hmmmmm" like a glass of your favourite beverage, and lemonade is unmistakably the ultimate summer thirst quencher. So here is a selection of bits and pieces that I hope will keep me motived and happy till summer finally comes.

Bric n Brac: Retro vintage is back

The best things in life are often a combination of unlikely elements. Like when rain and sun collide to make magical rainbows for us to gaze at. And that's what Houkie Poukie is, a creative collision between vintage and retro, pre-loved and original, romantic and shocking neon. A can't-help-but-love, must-have,design label by Stefanie Nagel, one of my way back uni friends. Here is a glimpse of some of the pieces from the Houkie Poukie label. Notice the ultra-hip style of photography accentuates the down to earth models, all of who are personal friendzies of Stefanie. May we all be so lucky to have a famous friend one day.

Encore Houkie Poukie!

Before Photoshop and tiny cameras

I am a keen scuba diver. I love being in the water, not so much in my wetsuit, though. When I first started diving, I used up all my money on equipment and courses, so a camera had to take the back seat. I ended up taking disposable waterproof cameras on all my dives. These little gems seize function at 15m, at that depth all you see is water and bubbles, no fish yet. So by the time I actually got down to the reef, my camera was not functioning at all which meant that most of the photos I ended up with was me with a very seasick looking face on the boat. Not good. Last Christmas, my mom bought me an underwater casing for my digital camera. It's not the most expensive or high-tech model on the market, but it makes my underwater snapping experience a hell of a lot easier and my photos look a lot better. Underwater photography is just amazing and I absolutely love it..



Here are some pictures taken by Bruce Mozert in Silver Springs, Florida in 1938. Bruce built the underwater casing for his camera himself. It’s amazing to look at these pictures now, having tried my hand at underwater photography myself, not only taking pictures, but also posing for them as a fun experiment with my friends as the photographers in my family pool. These pictures might look simple but I can only imagine the amount of time and effort that must have gone into them. If you yourself have ever been underwater, you will know that without a weight belt, you pretty much float to the surface automatically, so kudos to these ladies in the snaps who managed to stay underwater and look gorgeous whilst doing so. I love these pictures because they are the real deal, just the camera, the water and the subject. Enjoy.
