Wild Flowers

Image: taken by the yours truly at Kuranda Markets, QLD.

Today I am loving this Macy Gray song:

Listen to the sound and lose it

Its sweet music and dance with me

There is beauty in the world

So much beauty in the world

Always beauty in the world

Art in Bloom

"He was still too young too young to know that the heart's memory eliminates the bad and magnifies the good, and that thanks to this artifice we manage to endure the burden of the past"
Gabriel Marcia Garcia Marquez - Love in the time of Cholera.

Images: I took these pictures of one of the Art in Bloom Exhibitions that is on at Art Gallery of WA in September.

Love is all you need

This weekend I
- Visited the most beautiful 2nd hand bookstore
- Ate delicious home made pizza
- Strolled the freo markets
- Stared at the ocean
- Ate Spanish Churros Con Chocolcate with a friend
- Bought a beautiful blue silk top and a summer dress
- Saw a little boy hopscoth his way across a pedestrian crossing
- Did some button hunting
- Slept late on Sunday morning

Top notch ingredients for a wonderful lazy weekend. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Top Ops # 2

This weekend I stumbled upon Seconhand and Antiquarian Bookdealer Penny Bannister in Fremantle.
It was only with exterme restraint from my side that I managed to buy only one book. And what a book it turned out to be. I picked Life and Times of Michael K by South African born writer J.M Coetzee and only when I walked up to the counter to pay, did I realize that it was a copy signed by the author himself. What a delightful surprize. This $8.00 buy ticks all my boxes for a top op.  I can't wait to start reading it!

A little birdie told me..

A while ago I promised to try and regularly post some ideas on how to reinvent everyday household items into something special, so today I was inspired by vintage bird cages. Definitely going on my wishlist!

Some people simply put birds in bird cages, how mundane. Get a hold of one, put it in your bathroom and display all your bubbles and creams on it, or stack some books in it or cut it in half and mount it on the wall as a shelf. Always look beyond what is in front of you, and you might be surprized at what you find!

I would have never thought of this, but how handy is this bird cage as a mail organizer?

If you don't get alot of mail, but you have alot of notes, scrap paper and cute photo's lying around, this is the perfect wall hanging to display your bits and pieces on.

These are my thoughts today: Surround yourself with things you like. Pretty things that make you smile and colourful things that brighten your mood. What's the use of having nice perfume, when you never wear it? Having "special occasion" shoes or clothes that never get to be worn? Or only buying fresh flowers for the house when you have guests coming around?
Why is it that we tend to take out all the stops when it comes to other people but not ourselves?
So buy some flowers, just for yourself, put some of your fancy perfume on to work and wear your "special occasion" shoes on a regular day. Because everyday is a special day, we justt sometimes tend to forget.

Top Ops # 1

I've decided to start sharing some of the quirky, lovely, cute, snazzy random things that I find in the sometimes dusty shelves and racks of my favorite opshops around Perth. As you would have guessed already, I call them my Top Ops, and here is first one.
This weekend I headed off to Good Sammy's in Subi and found this little undie laundry bag lost between a whole lot of ancient curtains. I think it's absolutely delightful!

I think it's almost too pretty to wash!

Out and About

Today I just proved to myself once again that the nicest days are often the ones you don’t plan at all.

I started the morning off with a steaming cappuccino followed by a trip to my favorite 2nd hand book dealer, Elizabeth’s. I finally found a copy of Gabriel García Márquez’s Love in the time of Cholera, a book I’ve wanted to read for ages.

I wandered into a quaint little museum and found the loveliest 60’s dress on display, which made me wonder whether my clothes might ever end up in a museum somewhere a long time from now?

After my blast to the past, I hopped on a train and made my way to the Fremantle Markets, stealing a quick glimpse of the ocean on the way. In the maze of crafts, food and art, I managed to pick out two bags of coffee, crème brulee and a house blend as well as some lovely mud powder from Corrynne’s. Of course I couldn’t resist a sample of some of the yummy food stalls, so I treated myself to a traditional hand made doughnut and some mint-choc chip ice-cream with extra cookie dough, yum!

Undoubteldly one of my favourite shops to visit in Perth is Kakula's. I have been to Kakula's brothers in the City centre and today I visited their sister store in Fremantle. I love the smell of the spices and the look and feel of the place. An absolute treat for any foodie. Here are some of my pics of the Markets and Kakula's.

All natural made soaps in the markets. It's a miracle that I didn't walk out of there with a year's supply of soap.

A variety of flavoured and roasted coffee beans. Hmmmm.

I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day... I headed home with my book, my coffee, my mud and a tummy filled with treats. Sigh, if only every Saturday could be that nice.

Very Cherry

I am so happy that it is finally Spring and gardens all over the city are looking simply gorgeous. The route to work is looking better and better everyday. It starts on my way to the bus stop when I pass my neighbour's house, he has the most beautiful cherry blossom bush blooming in his front garden. I know it's a little early for new years resolutions, but by next Spring I really want my very own cherry blossom bush. Aren't they simply delightful?

I heart this dress sooo much. In fact, so much that it just inspired me to start my very own wishlist. And guess what's going right on top?

Confessions of a (insert addiction here) holic

I’m not sure when it started. Long ago I guess. I did it very discreetly at first and I promised myself it was the first and the last time. I’m just a regular girl and I thought I could control it , but I was wrong.I do it almost every day now....mostly when I’m in the shower... or at the bus stop, sometimes even at work. I try really hard not to, but it catches me off guard and  happens before I can stop myself. If there happen to be other people around when it does happen, they look at me with judging stares. I don't care, I know they probably do it too. Everyone does it, they just don't want to admit to it. So what't the big deal?

Hallo my name is (insert name here) …………And I talk to myself.

Maybe if more people admitted to doing the "shameful" things that everyone know everyone else does anyway, it wouldn't be so taboo. Socially acceptable behaviour is dictated by the boundaries we set for ourselves with the amount of transparency which we attribute to everyday actions. I don't mean that we all should be picking our noses and scratching our asses at the supermarket, but surely a solo conversation is not the end of the world people.

“Cue the applause and warm fuzzy non-judgmental greetings from fellow solo conversationists”
